Starting point: Birth to 5 Matters

When a child starts your nursery, you will want to create a Starting Point Assessment. Click Children > Child > Learning > Framework > Create Formative Report.

When creating a report, select ‘Starting Point’ under ‘Term’. Then proceed to fill out the other fields. Then click ‘Generate’.

Then, you can select the ‘Birth to 5’ tab, and fill out progress levels and age groups. After doing this, you can add any additional comments.

Why should I create a Starting Point assessment?

You'll have heard the phrase 'start as you mean to go on', and a Starting Point assessment is made on that principle. By knowing what level a child is starting at within your nursery, you can tailor their learning to develop the skills they're least proficient in and practise those they already know.

Without a Starting Point assessment, children can fall behind on their development as their skill gaps won't be known in order to be filled.
